CME Group Expands Cryptocurrency Futures with XRP and SOL Launch

· Crypto · QuoteReporter

CME Group, recognized as the leading derivatives marketplace globally, announced on December 15, 2025, the launch of Spot-Quoted XRP and SOL futures. This expansion complements their existing Spot-Quoted Bitcoin and Ether futures, offering traders the ability to engage with these contracts across the four major U.S. equity indices: the S&P 500, Nasdaq-100, Russell 2000, and Dow Jones Industrial Average. The introduction of these new futures contracts is a response to the growing demand for cryptocurrency derivatives, providing investors with the ability to trade futures positions in spot-market terms while benefiting from longer-dated expiries. This eliminates the need for frequent position rolling, thereby enhancing trading efficiency.

Giovanni Vicioso, Global Head of Cryptocurrency Products at CME Group, emphasized the strong demand for the current Spot-Quoted Bitcoin and Ether futures, which have seen over 1.3 million contracts traded since their launch in June. The addition of XRP and SOL futures aims to cater to everyday traders by offering smaller contract sizes, thereby increasing market accessibility and precision. These contracts are designed to offer traders flexibility, allowing them to maintain positions aligned with long-term market views or to trade more dynamically without the necessity of frequent position rolls.

The Spot-Quoted Bitcoin and Ether futures have demonstrated robust growth, with a launch-to-date average daily volume (ADV) of 11,300 contracts. The fourth quarter ADV reached 18,400 contracts, while December alone saw an ADV of 35,300 contracts. A record trading day was noted on November 24, with 60,700 combined Spot-Quoted Bitcoin and Ether futures contracts traded.

These Spot-Quoted futures are listed on, and subject to, the rules of CME and CBOT, reinforcing CME Group’s commitment to providing a regulated and secure trading environment. As a global leader in derivatives trading, CME Group offers a comprehensive range of products across various asset classes, including interest rates, equity indexes, foreign exchange, cryptocurrencies, energy, agricultural products, and metals. Their platforms, such as CME Globex for futures and options, BrokerTec for fixed income, and EBS for foreign exchange, facilitate efficient risk management and opportunity capture for market participants worldwide.

CME Group’s expansion into XRP and SOL futures underscores its strategic focus on meeting the evolving needs of the cryptocurrency market, providing traders with innovative tools to manage risk and leverage market opportunities effectively.
